CONSERVED HEIRLOOMS
Here we have a few before and after photos of an old filing/ledger cabinet that has found new life as an Apothecary and specimen storage for a geology student. The piece was in really rough shape upon getting to the shop. It appears that some time back someone had spliced two banks of drawers together. I think the end results were okay and the client was pleased too. The grandfather had given it to his grandson and I got to breathe new like unto it. Charge for this, I recall, it was a bit north of $1000.
THIS IS A ENGLISH LONG CASE CLOCK WAS MADE IN 1763 IN ENGLAND BY JOHN POLLARD. A CLOCK VERY SIMILAR TO THIS ONE RECENTLY SOLD FOR FORTY FIVE HUNDRED BRITISH POUNDS. I NEED TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH IT TO REPAIR THE CLOCK WORKS OR PUT IT IN THE HANDS OF SOMEONE THAT CAN GET THE OLD CLOCK RUNNING AND REGULATED. IT'S ORIGINAL PATINA AND FINISH IS STILL INTACT.
THIS ITEM SOLD FOR $300 (the clockworks needed considerable work)
THIS IS A LATE 18TH OR EARLY 19TH CENTURY ENGLISH SIDEBOARD, I THINK. IT IS PRIMARILY MADE FROM ASH WITH SOME EXTREMELY WELL DONE WALNUT CARVINGS. THIS SIDEBOARD HAS YET TO RECEIVE A MILD GOING OVER TO PATCH SOME MISSING VENEER EDGING ON THE COUNTER TOP AND REVITALIZE ITS APPEARANCE WITH A COLORED WAX. IT'S ORIGINAL PATINA AND FINISH IS STILL INTACT. IT HAS TWO ADJUSTABLE SHELVES THAT USE THE ZIG-ZAG STANDARDS AND THE ANGLED INTERLOCKING SHELF SUPPORTS - BOTH SHELVES ARE BEADED AND SHOW HAND PLANE RIDGES. THIS WILL BE FOR SALE ONCE THE REHABILITATION IS COMPLETE.
THIS IS A VICTORIAN ERA SHEET MUSIC STORAGE CABINET IS SITTING BELOW A SMALL SHOJI LANTERN I MADE. THIS ITEM (THE CABINET)REQUIRED VERY FEW MINOR ADJUSTMENTS PLUS A WAXING. IT'S ORIGINAL PATINA AND FINISH IS STILL INTACT. IT IS A BURGUNDY COLOR, IT'S INTERIOR IS PERFECT WITH A VERY NICE FINISH THAT WAS NOT SUBJECT TO SUNLIGHT. IT TWENTY EIGHT POSITIONS FOR THE SHELVES. EACH OF THE SHELVES ARE THREE PIECE - TWO GUIDES THAT THE SHELVES SLIDE IN AND OUT ON. THESE GUIDES ARE FRICTION FIT INTO THE ONE OF THE TWENTY EIGHT POSITIONS THE GLIDES CAN BE SELECTED. A VERY NEAT WAY OF DOING THINGS.
THIS ITEM WILL BE FOR SALE ONCE THE REHABILITATION IS COMPLETE.

CUSTOMERS WILL NOT HIRE SOMEONE TO MAKE AN ENSEMBLE OF SHOJI PANELS FOR WINDOW TREATMENTS IF YOU CANNOT SHOW DEMONSTRATE THE COMPETENCY. THAT WAS THE IDEA BEHIND THIS SMALL SAMPLE OF A SHOJI PANEL. I MADE IT WITH BITS AND PIECES OF WOOD THAT I HAD ON HAND. IT DOES DEMONSTRATE I HAVE THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO MAKE SHOJI PANELS. GENERALLY KUMIKO ELEMENTS ARE MORE COMPLEX THAN THE SIMPLE STAR THAT IS IN MY SAMPLE. DESIGNING AND LAYING OUT A COMPLEX KUMIKO IS LENGTHY ENDEAVOR. COMPLEX KUMIKO PATTERNS ARE AN EXCITING CHALLENGE. BUT I JUST NEEDED TO GET THIS THING DONE.

CUSTOM TWO WAY SPEAKERS
THIS IS THE FINISHED SPEAKER VIEWED FROM THE FRONT. The long running speaker project with the two piece grill in place. Too bad the speaker stands with the built in crossovers were as easy to make.
TEA APOTHECARY
This is a tea cabinet or apothecary. The unit is a standard production item that can be installed within cabinetry that the customer chooses. For this apothecary, as is, would cost $260. The tea boxes are cedar and are meant to be taken out and taken to work, if you feel like a particular tea on any given day. This housing cabinet is made from maple and is not stained, only finished with a clear latex varnish. The tea boxes are unfinished and unstained, to be food safe. The next run of tea boxes will feature mitered corners and a sliding lid.
CUSTOM WOOD SHELVING SYSTEM MADE TO ORDER
These are a few pictures of a wood shelving system that is a standard production item. These shelf components are made from primarily Manitoba Burr Oak and Manitoba Green Ash, with some walnut for design accents. The ash is indeed dry, the “Green” is nomenclature of the species. These items are a strategic business decision and marketing effort, intended to add value to the native hard wood that grow in abundance in the Winnipeg area. Pricing is by request.
MISC. PROJECTS FOR A WOOD COLLECTOR
- These are a few pictures of some of my latest projects. The stair handrail was built, installed and finished by myself. The woods are: myrtle burls for the rail mounts and rail bottom, quilted maple for the top hand rail and walnut for plugs and rail mount accents. This is a Greene and Greene inspired project.
- The display shelves were built by myself, but installed and finished by the customer. The wood is myrtle burls with walnut plugs. The shelves are 12mm glass housed within dadoes in the wood. This is a Greene and Greene inspired project as well.
- The speaker stands were cut to length and sanded by myself. The stands were then assembled and finished by the customer. The wood is myrtle burl off cuts.

This is my James Krenov inspired cabinet on stand and is a standard production item. It is made from oak, walnut and ebony. If you would like to have the opportunity to choose the finishing touches for this piece, it can be yours for the reasonable price of $600.00. Links to contact me are available at the end of this section.
This is an old console stereo that I cut down and made into a toy box for my two boys, Matthew and Michael. It had a rosewood front that made me think it was worth the effort. The front is now half of a bottom drawer. The upper part is a false front of a hopper under the lid. To be sure this was a lot of work for a $10 thrift store find. I think the $200 price I sold it for is fair. If you have an old console stereo with sentimental meaning, maybe I can adjust that for you too. And, maybe even upgrade its' audio section.
This is my "Croakadile". The way it is, is pretty much the way it came off the saw mill. I bought a bunch of boards from a guy that was moving and selling off his stock and saw mill. I was so relieved when he did not keep this board, because I immediately knew what I was going to do with the slab. The reptile is Burr Oak mounted on Quilted Maple. Burr Oak and Green Ash grow like weeds around here. Reasonably priced at $175.
